Why Natembeya wants Kenyans to give priority to their parents

The governor expressed concern that although some people indulge in luxury, they fail to provide their parents with basic necessities such as good mattresses and blankets.

“You go to the bar and order without thinking, but your mother doesn't even have a blanket or a mattress. Go into her room, lift the blanket, you'll find a mattress with holes. These are the things that matter—the basics,” he said.

The county leader also criticized traditional customs that prohibit children from entering their parents' rooms, noting that such customs often prevent them from discovering the dire conditions in which their parents live.

“Your father and mother are not your in-laws. Take a moment to visit your mother's room. You will shed tears. Some parents sleep on cement sheets, newspapers, fertilizer bags, or even leaves covered with sacks,” he complained.

Natembeya urged Kenyans to put effort into ensuring that their parents get basic needs such as mattresses, blankets, and good beds.

He urged the importance of compassion, saying many parents endure difficult situations in silence.

“When you collect food for yourself, remember also to collect their blessings by fulfilling their needs and raising their standard of living. Small acts of care mean a lot by honoring those who raised us,” he noted.

The governor called for the restoration of dignity among Kenyans, stressing the importance of ensuring that their parents live with dignity.
