Kericho – Sports Minister Onesimus Dating Murkomen has defended President William Ruto from the increasing criticism.
The minister asked those who have been attacking the head of the country, accusing them of criticizing him on the basis of ethnicity instead of his performance.
Murkomen, speaking at the first joint graduation ceremony of the Kericho County Vocational Training Centers on Thursday, December 5, expressed his frustration with the continued criticism leveled at him Rutoespecially from the media, the church, and other critics.
The former MP said that he believes the criticism is more about the president's race than his leadership.
“I find it unfair that many people, especially the church, the media and our critics, are criticizing President William Ruto not based on the truth of what we are doing, but it is criticism based on ethnicity,” he said.
Murkomen highlighted what he sees as the duplicity of how Ruto is compared to past presidents.
“I think it is unfair that President William Ruto is not compared to President Uhuru Kenyatta, he is not compared to President Mwai Kibaki. He is not even compared to President Jomo Kenyatta. Because of illness and tribalism, every critic of William Ruto compares him to Daniel Arap Moi as if there was only one president before him. It is not right to find fault with the president based on where he comes from or to compare him with the president who came from this community before.” he added.
Why Murkomen has faith in Ruto
Murkomen felt that the focus should be on fair comparison based on facts, not ethnicity.
He compared Ruto to past heads of government, saying that former president William Ruto was heavily criticized in his early days.
“Let's criticize him honestly as he is; Compare President William Ruto with his predecessor in the first two years. Compare President Ruto with President Mwai Kibakithe first two years. In 2003 and 2004 everyone was crying that President Kibaki had finished. what has he done… but by 2007, if it wasn't for the post-election violence, President Kibaki would have been celebrated for turning the economy around,” Murkomen said.
Having faith in Ruto's leadership, Murkomen urged Kenyans to give the president time to implement his vision for the country.
“We want to say here with confidence that we have faith in President William Samoei Ruto. If we give him the right time and criticize him fairly we will get the right results for our country,” he said.
Why does the church openly criticize the government?
In other news, NCCK chairman Elias Agola explained that the church has had public criticism of the government after their personal efforts were ignored.
According to Agola, the church has deliberately chosen to ignore political disputes, adding that the politicians are aware of their recent actions.
He assured Kenyans that they will continue to hold the government accountable for corruption and economic issues.
