Officers of the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) from Nairobi succeeded in defeating armed crime suspects in Matungu area of Kakamega county.
According to DCIthe suspects have been troubling the residents of Matungu and its suburbs.
A task force comprising the DCI's Criminal Investigation and Intelligence unit followed the armed suspects to their rented house, where they ordered them to surrender.
However, they disobeyed the order, and started shooting at the detectives.
The officers overpowered them and shot them dead and recovered an AK47 rifle and a Bajaj motorcycle from them.
It was found that the items recovered from the two belonged to the police officer whom they had attacked earlier.
“Police in the area believe that the motorcycle found belongs to a fellow police officer who is in a coma in Kakamega hospital, after being attacked by a gang of people with swords on the night of November 12 in Butere town,” the DCI said.
The bodies were transported to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting identification.
