Joseph Junior Ochele fell ill on Saturday, November 30, and passed away the next day at the Hospital Thika Level 4.
Luke Ocele told it TUKO.co.ke that his nephew was coughing up blood, and his stool was also stained with blood.
Can you be treated without SHA?
Joseph, who joined Kenyatta University (KU) in July, did not have any health challenges before his death.
“He was fine. It seemed like he fell ill suddenly, which caused him serious damage. He was taken to the school's clinic for first aid when he fell ill that Saturday night. However, his condition worsened, and he needed urgent medical attention, and then he was taken to the hospital,” he said.
The family needed to pay at least KSh 5,000 so that their child could be registered in the new Community Health insurance to receive treatment.
Why did Thika Level 4 Hospital not treat the KU student?
However, the family could not raise the money so that your son could be admitted and start treatment.
“He passed away on Sunday morning because he was not cared for as we had not paid the required KSh 5,000. His body was taken to the mortuary immediately, and burial plans are already underway,” he said bitterly.
Joseph's father could not believe the news of the death of his 25-year-old son, who was looking forward to a good educational journey after joining the university.

Luke said his brother was heartbroken following the bad news, adding that the family was doing everything to help him and give their relative a proper burial.

In a separate statement, Felix Kipyegon's family mourned his death a few days after he was rushed to several hospitals for treatment.
The 19-year-old boy, while in the queue for registration at Kirinyaga University, started complaining of having a headache.
After fainting, he was taken to the clinic and later transferred to the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Bernard Ngeno, a family member, said the boy came out Bomet died in Tenwek hospital.
