What do Kenyans hate about going to the village?

Social media like TikTok is full of funny stories of the not-so-exciting aspects of traveling in the countryside, with netizens sharing unforgettable experiences.

One TikTok netizen, @kimani_kelvin, shared a video that gives her followers a glimpse of village life.

His post quickly became popular as Kenyans joined in, sharing their funny and frustrating moments of living in the countryside during the festive season.

“Ushagoo I have been woken up at eight o'clock at night to say that the hammer is there,” one wrote.

One netizen highlighted the never-ending cycle of preparing food for guests, a seemingly endless task during the holidays, saying:

“I cook tea for the guests the whole day as they leave while others enter, even in the hotel no one serves tea like that.”

For others, it's the occasional manual tasks that come with rural life.

One shared a memory of being woken up on Christmas Eve at 3am by their grandmother, who insisted they go to the farm despite being in the holiday rush.

“I remember there was one day when Shosh woke us up to go farming in the morning on December 24th,” he joked.

Another netizen shared the challenge of keeping wild animals away from his home in the village:

“For us, it is close to the forest, you are surprised at eight o'clock at night, so that the ivory does not enter the compound,” he wrote.

A different TikTok netizen shared the funniest scene saying:

“You are woken up at nine o'clock at night and the calf is born,”

For others, it's long hours in the kitchen. One netizen complained about the endless preparation of food, only to be eaten immediately by family and guests.
