Former vice president Rigathi Gachagua has claimed a plot to kill him during a chaotic funeral in Limuru.
The incident that happened on Thursday, November 28, witnessed hooligans disrupting the event, destroying tents, chairs and cars, including that of Gachagua and the MPs who accompanied him.
Was there a plot to kill Gachagua?
Speaking in an interview on television NTV Kenya on Sunday, December 1, Gachagua claimed that the plan to end his life was planned and executed correctly.
He linked the allegations to the removal of his security detail following his visit to Murang'a on Sunday, November 24. According to him, the move left him vulnerable, paving the way for attacks.
“The plan to take my life was hatched and implemented, and it started with the withdrawal of the security officers who were around me. When we left Murang'a, a few officers with me were called and given transfer to different places.
“I was left without any officers. All four administrative police officers who were guarding this residence had been withdrawn two weeks ago when we left Embu. Now I see clearly that the withdrawal of those officers was to expose me and create a platform for an attack on my person,” he demanded.
Who caused chaos at Limuru's funeral?
In addition, Gachagua accused Limuru MP John Kiragu of organizing the riots.
He claimed that a meeting was held at the Tigoni Police Station the day before the funeral, where the local security officers allegedly conspired to facilitate the chaos.
He also criticized the response of the four officers sent to the family of the deceased, who reportedly arrived in civilian clothes and allegedly failed to intervene.
