Nairobi – Women leaders have taken to social media to congratulate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the newly elected president of Namibia.
Although official results have not been announced, preliminary vote counts show Ndaitwah of Namibia's SWAPO Party was leading by a wide margin.
Nairobi businessman and politician Agnes Kagure mentioned Ndaitwah's victory as motivation for women leaders especially in Kenya.
“Congratulations HE Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on your election as Namibia's first female President; a loud glass ceiling shattering close to home. I hope for more female Presidents, including the ones in Kenya. I wish you an era of change. Congratulations ππ ,” Kagure said.
On his part, the governor of Kirinyaga Anne Waiguru he mentioned Ndaitwah's victory as a manifestation of the progress of women in leadership.
“Congratulations to Hon Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for becoming the 5th and first female President of Namibia. Africa now celebrates seven female presidents, the first being HE Ellen Sirleaf Johnson (@MaEllenSirleaf), a powerful testimony to the progress of women in leadership. successful and transformative,” Waiguru said.

On her part, Nairobi women's representative Esther Muthoni Passaris said:
“Congratulations, Madam President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah! Your victory symbolizes hope for the future of Namibia. May your reign be successful and united for all Namibians. I wish you courage and determination to face the challenges ahead of you.”
