Bungoma – President William Ruto has donated KSh 5 million to a church in Bungoma county a few days after the Catholic church rejected his donation.

Sunday, December 1, Governor Kenneth Lusaka presented Ruto's donation to the Anglican Church of St. Chrispinus in Bungoma town.
While handing over the donation of KSh 5 million, Lusaka joked that he hoped the church would not return the president's donation.
The Bungoma governor also defended politicians who donate to churches, stressing that such gestures are in line with the teachings of the Bible.
“The President has sent me his donation of KSh 5 million but I hope the bishop will not return the donation. There is nothing wrong with leaders contributing to God's work. The Bible encourages us to honor the Lord with our resources,” Lusaka said. .
Bungoma Diocese Bishop George Mechumo, who presided over the mass, assured Lusaka that he would not reject Ruto's millions.
He dismissed criticism against church donations, insisting that such donations are necessary for furthering the church's mission.
“I will not return the donation. There is nothing wrong with receiving donations intended for God's work,” Mechumo said.
Why does Ruto want the conflict between the church and the government to stop?
Meanwhile, President Ruto has called for an end to the recent tensions between priests and government officials following the rejection of his contribution to the Catholic Church in Soweto.
The tension arose after the Catholic church refused and vowed to return KSh 5.6 million donated and promised by the president, citing a violation of the church's directives on gifts.
