How Tanzania passed Kenya
In November 2024, The Citizen newspaper reported that Tanzania had overtaken Kenya as the largest source of Uganda to import products in Africa.
Bank of Uganda noted that the landlocked country imported goods worth $4.17 billion (KSh 540 billion) from COMESA and elsewhere in Africa in the year ended June 2024, with Tanzania accounting for almost half of this total.
According to the Uganda Revenue Authority, Uganda mainly imports gold, rolled steel or non-alloy steel, carboys and nuts, bottles, and bottles from Tanzania.
In the period under review, Tanzania accounted for 42.56 percent of Ugandan goods imported from Africa, while Kenya and South Africa accounted for 19.55 percent and 6.43 percent respectively.

Kenya falls in the level of commercial attractiveness in Africa
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that as Kenya experienced a difficult economic situation characterized by high interest rates in the first half of the year, it dropped one place in the Stanbic Bank Africa business index.
Kenya was ranked sixth in the latest Stanbic Bank Africa Business Index, behind South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Nigeria.
Kenya's business attractiveness dropped from fourth in 2022 to sixth in the bottom half of the table.
The decline is part of a larger pattern that has been occurring for the past three years.
