Waiguru noted that he began his priestly journey at a young age, attending a mission school for his primary education before proceeding to a seminary for his high school education.

The priest said that his main priestly journey was developed in various seminaries across the country, where he studied spirituality, philosophy and theology.

He earned two degrees and a spiritual certificate, both of which he says took him nine years to complete, noting that he started in 2003 and finished in 2012.

“I embarked on a great priestly journey, I did spiritual things in Nakuru at a seminary called St Mary's Molo, philosophy at St Augustine in Bungoma and I finished theology there Eldoret at St Mathias Mulumba,” he said in a Citizen TV report.

Furthermore, Waiguru explained that he did not stop serving God. He only stopped being a Catholic priest because they don't allow priests to marry

“I was raised in the Roman Catholic Church, which has a tradition of celibacy. Only the Catholic Church has the discipline of celibacy,” he explained.

The priest said he went to Rome and served as a missionary in the United States before moving to Haiti, where his desire to marry was born.

“It was a secret to me, how things were happening because when I finished my studies, I went abroad to Rome and as a missionary in the United States before my superior sent me to Haiti,” he narrated.

“Things started to change when I was in Haiti because I identified myself as a Roman priest, and I am black, so I wondered if I was Roman or African. A true African man should have a family, a wife and children; that's where it started,” he added.

He later moved to the United States, shared his passions with his superior, and began to explore and learn.

Father Edwin Waiguru is married

The former Catholic Church priest said he met his beloved wife, Margaret Wanjira, when he returned to Kenya in 2020.

According to him, the reception was not what he expected because the villagers saw him as the person who brought it COVID-19 instead of the priest who had rebelled.

“I came back during the COVID-19, and that's when I met my beloved wife. This time, people were afraid of catching the disease; there was social distancing and no greetings. People in my village saw me as someone who came with COVID-19 and not a priest who has left the church,” he explained.

Waiguru explained that he had moved in with his wife and that they were expecting their first child when the COVID-19 was over.

“I already had my family, my wife was pregnant, and everyone was happy. We called both our families, and we had a beautiful wedding together with the church,” he said.

The father of three said that he had a traditional wedding ceremony and was also ordained a Charismatic Catholic priest on the same day.

“I was re-ordained as a Charismatic priest and formalized my marriage. God has blessed us with three children, and I also serve God as a priest,” he added.

He also noted that he still serves God in the Catholic Church but he only disagrees about the sacrament of marriage.

Padre wa Chuka explains about Catholic Charisma

TUKO.co.ke spoke to Father Denis Mutembei from Chuka Catholic Church, who said that Charismatic Catholics are groups that are divided in the Church of Rome.

“There is no such thing as a Charismatic Catholic priest. What they have are these splinter groups that call themselves Reformed Catholics. They are not under Roman Catholicism,” Walk him said.

The priest explained that the reformed Catholic church is a group that withdrew from the church for various reasons.

“When you come out from under the Roman Catholic Church, you are no longer under the pope. They are not under the pope but they run independently.

“Even in the history of the Church, we had issues of people moving their own churches, and creating different names. In short, it is like any other protestant church, which perhaps feels that they disagree with one or two disciplines and are not comfortable, so they live,” he said.
