Reach Out to Parents: Government Announces School Opening Dates as the Festive Season Officially Begins

  • Thursday, November 28, the Ministry of Education released a detailed schedule for all schools
  • According to the schedule, the first term for all schools will start on January 6, while the third term will start on August 25
  • The first semester vacation for all schools will last for three weeks, from April 7 to April 25

Nairobi – The Ministry of Education has announced the academic calendar for 2025, including national school exams.

When will schools open?

A statement issued by the Secretary General of Basic Education Belio Kipsang on Thursday, November 28, shows that all schools are set to open for the first semester on January 6, 2025, and close on April 4 after 13 weeks of study.

According to a notice seen by TUKO.co.ke, schools will continue for half term for five days, between February 26 to March 2.

The first semester vacation for all schools will start from April 7 to April 25, and the second semester will start on April 28. Students will study for 14 weeks before continuing with the second semester vacation on August 1, 2025.

The third semester is scheduled to begin on August 25 and last for nine weeks only. After that, schools will be closed for the November and December holidays on October 24.

According to the schedule, the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) 2025 will then start on October 27 and last for four days until October 30.

Students taking the Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) exams were expected to start their exams on October 27. The exams were expected to last for five days and end on October 31.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) is scheduled for three weeks between November 3 and November 21.
