Kenyan Newspapers Friday, Nov 29: List of Mathe wa Ngara's Properties That The Government Will Seize

On Friday, November 29, Kenyan newspapers revealed that suspected drug trafficker Nancy Kigunzu aka Mathe wa Ngara is set to forfeit her assets to the government for alleged illegal trade.

Daily newspapers also reported that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was facing a constitutional crisis.

1. Daily Nation

The Assets and Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) has obtained a court order to seize the assets of Nancy Kigunzu known as Mathe was Ngara.

These include:

Four plots of land in Juja.

Three pieces of land in Vihiga.

Cars three.

A house in Juja, Kiambu county.

According to the ARA, the assets were obtained illegally through suspected drug dealers.

High Court Judge Benjamin Musyoki issued orders prohibiting the suspect and his associates from handling the assets, including three plots of land in Vihiga registered under George Inguti and Scolastica Wambui Kibathi.

“That an order be issued directing the registrar-general of land to register a caveat against the records of the said property,” Musyoki pointed out, while the orders remain in effect for 90 days.

The court has also prevented Mathe wa Ngara from selling or transferring three cars and asked him to surrender the register of those cars within seven days.

President William Ruto has given a seven-day deadline to Kenya Power and other government agencies that have not complied with the single payment bill system.

Apart from Kenya Power, other agencies include the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and the Independent Police Regulatory Authority (IPOA).

Ruto instructed the organizations to transfer their services to the platform eCitizen.

“These organizations have not yet complied with my order that their services, payments and revenues must be on the eCitizen platform so that the National Treasury can track the revenues that are collected by the government,” Ruto said.

The President said the deployment of digital services in government services aims to combat corruption.

3. The Standard

IEBC has admitted to facing a constitutional crisis as it has not yet reviewed the borders due to the absence of commissioners.

The period for reviewing the borders according to the 2010 Constitution ended in March 2024.

The chief executive officer (CEO) of IEBC Marjan Hussein said the commission is waiting for advice from the Supreme Court, which will decide if the border review exercise will be extended.

IEBC does not have enough numbers following the departure of chairman Wafula Chebukati and commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye.

The 'Cherera Four' commissioners resigned after the highly contested 2022 General Election, where they opposed the election of William Ruto as president.

4. The Star

A report by the National Council for the Control of Syndemic Diseases has revealed that Nairobi, Poisonous and Nakuru lead in new HIV infections.

The agency revealed that 16,752 people were newly diagnosed with the virus in 2023, with nine counties accounting for 51 percent of new infections.

Apart from Nairobi, Kisumu, and Nakuru, the most affected counties are Migori, Homa Bay, Uasin Gishu, Siaya, Mombasa, Kakamega, Kericho, and Kajiado.

During the period under review, 20,480 Kenyans died from HIV-related deaths, up from 18,473 in 2022. A rise in deaths among men reportedly fueled the increase.

Former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka may benefit from the conflict between President William Ruto and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

Kalonzo has been making political movements in the area rich in votes before the 2027 General Election.

Ruto received strong support from the region in the 2022 elections, but the climate has changed since Gachagua was removed from power.
