Kenyan Travel Expert Shares 6 Reasons For Seniors To Get US Visas Relatively Easily
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Anthony Wambugu highlighted several factors that make the process smooth for senior applicants.
He explained that older applicants typically present a lower risk of overstaying their visas or violating conditions, which works in their favor.
He attributed this to six main reasons:
1. Strong Relationships with Home
Older applicants often have significant, visible ties to Kenya, such as property, family, or business.
These reasons indicate a high probability of returning home after their visit to the United States.
2. Less Anxiety about Immigration
According to Wambugu, US embassy officials are less likely to see the elderly as potential immigrants or illegal workers.
Retirees and those visiting for specific reasons—such as medical care or family reunions—seem less likely to abuse their visas.
3. Financial Stability
Older people are more likely to have financial resources, such as savings, retirement funds, or investments.
“This makes it easier to prove that they can cover their expenses during their stay in America,” he continued.
4. Family and Medical Visits
Wambugu noted that many elderly applicants seek visas to visit children, grandchildren, or other relatives or to receive special medical services.
These clear and legitimate reasons are often met by consular officials.
5. Known Travel Records
Additionally, older applicants typically have a history of international travel without a visa violation, greatly increasing their chances.

“A clean record of compliance with visa requirements reassures embassy officials of their intentions,” Wambugu explained.
6. Retirement Status
With retirees able to find work in the United States, one of the embassy's primary concerns has been eliminated.
This increases confidence in issuing visas to senior citizens.
Despite these benefits, Wambugu stressed that elderly applicants must still provide detailed documentation and strong evidence of their purpose of travel and intention to return to Kenya.
“Each case is evaluated individually, so proper preparation remains important,” he advised.
