Member of Parliament for Kiharu (MP) Ndindi Nyoro, who is also the chairman of the Budget and Allocation Committee, has criticized the President's administration William Ruto with impossible estimates of income.
Why did Ndindi Nyoro say bad things about the government?
Speaking on Wednesday, November 20, during the launch of public meetings for the 2025/26 financial year and medium term budget at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC), Nyoro claimed that the government is not doing well in collecting revenue despite big tax.
“We keep making the same mistakes all the time. For the last 10 years, our normal income has been achieved by an average of only 67%. If then you always have a shortfall between our goals and actual income then we should always aim higher,” Nyoro said.
Nyoro decried the situation of spending a lot of money on ordinary expenditure at the expense of development.
The Secretary in the Ministry of Finance (PS) Chris Kiptoo confirmed that the government missed its revenue targets in July, August and September of the 2024/2025 financial year.
“You will see that in July, KRA missed the target by KSh 35 billion; in August, it missed the target by KSh 25 billion. In September, which is usually a tax month, it made good progress and missed the target by KSh. 10 billion In October, KRA collected KSh 208 billion, against the target of KSh 201 billion.”
How much did KRA collect last year?
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) collected over KSh 2.4 trillion in the financial year ending June 30, 2024.
The tax collector attributed the 11.1 percent growth in tax revenue to the expansion of the tax base, which resulted in the authority earning KSh 24.62 billion.
The increase in tax revenue was similar for various tax heads, including PAYE, which collected KSh 543.186 billion.
Will Nyoro be stripped of the budget chairmanship?
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that Ndindi Nyoro is at risk of losing his seat as the chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Budget and Allocation.
President William Ruto is preparing a strong agitation in the National Assembly to replace the dishonest chairmen and vice-chairmen of the parliamentary committees.
Nyoro, who is serving his second term as MP for Kiharu, will be replaced by MP for Molo, Kimani Kuria, who chairs the Finance and Planning Committee.
