Kenyans rejoice at the Catholic Church for rejecting William Ruto's donation of KSh 5.6m

  • The Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi has rejected the donations of President William Ruto and Governor Johnson Sakaja to the Catholic Church in Soweto
  • The two had made large donations for the construction of the priest's house, the choir and the PMC
  • Several Kenyans have applauded the move to reject the donations while some expressed hope that Kenya will be a better place

Nairobi – The Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi has announced a plan to return all donations made by President William Ruto and the Governor Johnson to St. Anne and Joseph Catholic Church in Soweto.

On Sunday, November 17, President Ruto he contributed KSh 2 million for the construction of his father's house, KSh 600,000 for the choir, and promised an additional KSh 3 million to complete the house.

Meanwhile, Governor Sakaja gave KSh 200,000 to the parish choir and the Pontifical Missionary Council (PMC).

Metropolitan Archbishop Philip Anyolo said that the money will be returned as it violated the instructions of the Catholic Church and the 2024 Public Funding Appeal Bill.
