Nairobi – Leader of the Narc Party Kenya Martha Karua has dismissed claims that the late president Mwai Kibaki did not win the 2007 presidential election.
During an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, November 18, Karua insisted that Kibaki did not steal the ODM leader's votes. Raila Odinga in that very competitive election.
Karua said that although Kriegler's report in 2008 said it was not clear who won the election, the results of the election commission showed that Kibaki emerged as the winner.
He noted that, according to the results of Kriegler's report, the late president defeated Raila but by a narrow margin.
“What Kriegler said was that both parties were involved in vote-rigging, so it wouldn't even make sense to try to figure out who won, meaning that election laws were violated to such an extent that you might not be able to get to the truth of the matter. But if you ask from the polls that Kivuitu announced, I will tell you directly, Kibaki won. And I will also tell you that there was a very small difference, and Kriegler is clear, anyone can read, it was a very small difference,” Karua said.
According to Karua, another analysis by a senior American professor also pointed to the fact that Kibaki won the 2027 presidential election.
He added that it is not fair for people to continue to claim that Raila's votes were stolen in 2007.
“There is another group from the United States, led by a famous professor. They also tried to remove what they saw as exaggerated votes from both parties, such as if the polling station had more than 80%. Using that method to audit the elections, they still found that Kibaki won by a small margin. So, who is lying to whom when we keep hearing the story of the election being stolen?” he asked.
