Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja has called on Kenyans to be patient with President William Ruto’s administration.
Sakaja insists that it is early to evaluate Ruto’s administration, which has only been in office for a little over 24 months. He believes that successful governments require time to fully implement their agendas, and this should also apply to the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“Wakenya tuwe na subra. We need to give President Ruto time. He has only been President for two years,” he stated.
“If you look at other governments, they took time. Serikali ya Mwai Kibaki ilijenga Thika Road kwa mwaka wa tano, and the Expressway was completed in the ninth year of the Jubilee administration, not in year 1, 2, or 3,” Sakaja explained.
According to the county chief, many of the challenges that President Ruto and his administration are facing are issues that have remained unresolved for years.
“It’s only two years, and all the blame is on President Ruto. Two years cannot resolve issues that have persisted for 60 years,” Sakaja argued.
However, he expressed optimism about Ruto’s ability to manage these challenges and ensure the country is on a path to economic success.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. Ni vile tunajua wewe (Ruto) ni mnona. That’s why watu wanakuharikisha because we know who you are. But we need to give him time,” he added.
Sakaja’s comments come as Kimani Ichung’wah, the Majority Leader in the National Assembly, urged the President to remain steadfast in his mission to transform Kenya.
“Only a tree that bears fruit is stoned. The Kenya Kwanza administration has introduced reforms in various sectors, such as taxation, economic restructuring, and social welfare programmes. These changes, while beneficial in the long term, have disrupted existing systems and rattled certain groups,” he noted.
