Pakistan – At least 26 people have been confirmed dead following a horrific accident involving a bus carrying wedding guests in Pakistan.
Officials said a bus carrying wedding guests veered off the road and plunged into a river in northern Pakistan, killing 26 people, including the bride and groom, on Tuesday, November 12.
According to the Pakistani news website, DawnDiamer Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sher Khan said the bus was heading from Astore to Chakwal in the Punjab region.
The bus was carrying 27 passengers, including the bride and groom at the time of the accident, and rescue teams were able to pull 16 bodies from the river.
The bride, who was initially rescued with serious injuries, was taken to the Regional Headquarters Hospital (RHQ) in Gilgit, where luck unfortunately he died from his injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows that the driver lost control of the vehicle when it was on the Telchi bridge around 7 pm due to high speed, causing the bus to leave the road and fall into the river.
The President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, in a statement on X, expressed “deep sorrow for the loss of precious lives in the accident.”
He also emphasized the “need to speed up” rescue operations for those who have not yet been found, as reported by Al Jazeera.

In other news, Tanzanian authorities have launched a search for the driver believed to have caused the accident that killed 14 people.
A Toyota Hiace passenger car reportedly collided with a Mitsubishi Fuso truck, and slid until it was covered by the truck's hood. The authorities explained that the accident was caused by the negligence of the driver, who allegedly did not pay attention to road safety precautions.
