Nyeri MP Duncan Maina Mathenge is the latest MP from Mount Kenya to face hostility for his involvement in the removal of the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
The MP was rejected by his constituents in his first public meeting after joining the call to remove Gachagua from power.
Mathenge arrived Pain Town Downstage in an effort to defend the matatu crew, who were being moved to a different station, but the meeting quickly changed.
The locals, most of whom are supporters of Gachagua, expressed strong disagreement with the MP's position.
Matatu staff were among the locals who turned to singing songs mocking Mathenge, while some called him a traitor for supporting Gachagua's removal.
Since then, videos of the incident have emerged, showing Mathenge speechless as they shouted and humiliated him.
Before long, some people who came forward to ask the member of parliament to leave, and eventually had to leave the area.
Did Mathenge address the residents of Nyeri?
The Member of Parliament left the area while continuing to find a crowd of people who accepted him more to address his voters on the development.
Mathenge had the opportunity to speak at another matatu station where he criticized Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga.
He accused the county leader of showing dictatorial behavior in his leadership, claiming that he easily forces things when things don't go his way.
“Mutahi Kahiga is used to pushing his chest, today we want to tell him that regarding this issue of removing our cars from this station we will not move. We inform them that we are not moving,” said the MP.
