Kakamega – A police officer sent to enforce security during the ongoing Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination has reportedly slapped a candidate at Bulonga Secondary School.
The incident happened on Monday, November 11, when the students were preparing to take their Kiswahili exam, something that caused panic among the students and school officials.
According to the report submitted at the Harambee Police Station, the officer identified as Constable Hamisi Mwanmbi, was inspecting the students before the exam.
During the process, he noticed a small wallet in one candidate's pocket, which he found suspicious.
Mwanmbi allegedly slapped the student and gave a stern warning saying “he will face anyone who makes fun of him” during the exam.
“Hamisi Mwanmbi continued and started to tear the students apart and in the process, he found one student with a small wallet in his pocket, the officer then slapped the student and later went to the exam room and warned the students that he will deal with anyone who jokes with him,” read the report. police seen by TUKO.co.ke.
How did the education officials deal with the Bulonga incident?
The incident was quickly reported to the school management while Titus Odinga, the center manager of Bulonga Secondary School, reported the matter to the nearby police station.
He expressed his concern about the behavior of the officer assigned to oversee the security of the examination center.
Following this, senior leaders including the Deputy County Commissioner Christine Eredi and the Matungu Sub County Police Commander visited the school to deal with the situation.
The leaders held a detailed discussion with the school leadership and officials involved to assess the situation.
Considering the mess that happened, the police officer was removed from the examination center, and his place was filled by another officer.
An investigation has been initiated by the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in Matungu to determine if the officer's actions were justified.
