Nairobi – Elders from the Mount Kenya region have called on Kenyans to support the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua as he adjusts to life after being removed from office.
In a heartfelt statement issued through the Gikuyu union, EmbuMeru, and Akamba Community Alliance GEMA (GCA), the elders expressed their dismay at the way Gachagua was dismissed from office.
Taifa Today reports that they asked Kenyans of good will and the public to stand with him and his family during this transition.
GEMA Chairman Lawi Imathiu saw that, despite Gachagua's seeming flaws, he deserved respect, and did not deserve to be treated badly.
Imathiu stressed the temporary nature of leadership positions, noting that when serving the country, leaders should be treated with respect and dignity and not be dismissed as wasteful.
“The position of presidents, vice presidents, governors and other leaders is only temporary, it is about the service you provide to the nation, but the nation should not throw you aside, instead they should treat you as their people. like a brother or sister,” Imathiu said, emphasizing the temporary nature of power.

The elders, including prominent figures such as former Methodist Church Bishop Bernard Kitungi, former commissioner Joseph Kaguthi, former minister Bernard Ndotto, and Canon Peter Karanja, appealed to Kenyans to help Gachagua and his family as they face the challenges of life after office.
They pointed out that such a great loss can affect the well-being of the leader's family, and it is the responsibility of the community to provide support.
“We remember the former vice president and we wish him and his family all the best, remember when someone leaves that position suddenly he always feels pain, sometimes the family is facing a difficult time, we are the people we need.” to support people like them,” they said in a joint statement, asking Kenyans to help Gachagua move forward.
Admitting that Gachagua's era had its flaws, the elders appealed to leaders across the country not to abandon him.
“He may have had his shortcomings, but we ask you to remember him and his family so that he does not feel alone. We ask the parliamentarians, senators and all Kenyans not to abandon him but to help him move forward,” the elders said.
The elders thanked Ruto for appointing him Kithur Kindiki as Gachagua's successor and applauded the president's decision to choose another leader from the Mount Kenya area.

Earlier, a video surfaced online showing the former vice president keeping himself alone while others mingled after the funeral service.
The famous politician was among the distinguished guests who attended the funeral of Lucy Wambui, who died after being hanged.
