Citizen TV reported that evidence gathered by detectives showed that the 23-year-old was allegedly killed inside the house of Lawrence Njiguna, known as DJ Fatxo, before being thrown out of the house.

Later, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) agreed with the findings of the Criminal Investigation Department regarding the death of Jeff Mwathi.

DJ Fatxo's lawyer, Duncan Okatch, explained that Fatxo had been cleared of criminal involvement in the death.

Okatch said that Fatxo was proven innocent, adding that the singer was not at home when Jeff died.

What did Jeff Mwathi say to his girlfriend before he died?

Giving evidence in court, the makeup artist revealed that she started dating Jeff in 2021 when they were living in Ngara, Nairobi.

She revealed that in February 2023, Jeff sent her a screenshot of her alleged conversation with Fatxo offering her a house decorating job.

He recalled DJ Fatxo allegedly buying shoes from one of Jeff's stores as he recounted the fateful day of his death.

“On February 21, I woke up at 12 am to go to work. I used to call him every evening after work to meet at the bus stop and go home together. But he told me he was not at home and had gone with DJ Fatxo and another friend named Mutanu,” he demanded.

The humble daughter said she returned home, and at 8pm, she sent Jeff KSh 1,000 for a taxi fare.

“He told me he was having fun at Barabara ya Kiambu. We were in constant contact through phone calls and messages. Then he called and told me they were on their way to Quivers Thika Road. He called while he was there and told me Fatxo bought them a bottle of alcohol, and they were talking about business but they haven't finished and they were going to Fatxo to finish the meeting,” he demanded.

He assured her that he would return home but he never did. The next day, she went to work not knowing Jeff had died.

“Several attempts to reach him failed. His phone was switched off and at 9 in the afternoon, Mutana called him and asked me if I had seen Jeff. I told him to tell me because they were together the night before, and he was the one with the details,” he narrated.

“I asked him to check if Jeff was at home, and he said no. I left work and went to Kimbo to look for him, but he was nowhere to be seen.”
