During the operation, officers recovered a stolen Ceska pistol belonging to Ayieko, a key piece of evidence that could help further the investigation into his tragic death.

In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Coordinator of DCI of Nyanza Region, Lenny Kisaka, confirmed that the third suspect, a man, managed to escape during a police operation in Wagai, Gem sub-county, on Tuesday, October 29.

It is reported that the suspect escaped with gunshot wounds after confronting security officers.

“We received information about a robbery planned to be carried out along the Luanda-Siaya Road, which made us set a trap to catch the suspects,” Kisaka explained.

A well-led police team flagged down a private saloon car with registration number KDN 948 B.

When the parties tried to escape, a shootout broke out.

“The suspects fired into the air, and our officers responded by shooting the tires of their car, thus removing them from the road,” Kisaka explained in detail.

The male suspect fled on foot towards a nearby bush and then boarded a motorcycle, while the female suspects were arrested.

Officers found Ceska's pistol loaded with 11 rounds, with serial numbers matching Ayieko's missing pistol.

This availability indicates relationship of that weapon and other criminal activities. Following the incident, the police sent tracking dogs that led them to a hideout near the scene.

“Despite these efforts, the injured suspect managed to avoid re-arrest, but we arrested a second female suspect and recovered a police uniform believed to have been used in the robbery along Kisumu-Busia Road,” Kisaka reported.

Speaking to friends and relatives of Willis Ayieko, Kisaka promised;

“We are treating this as a serious crime, and all those involved will face the law.”
