- According to Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi, the bill proposing the extension of the presidential term limit is the creation of the deposed deputy president Rigathi Gachagua
- The MP claimed that Gachagua wanted to use the bill to paint President William Ruto's administration in a bad light
- Kenyans have been largely opposed to the bill, which Nandi senator Samson Cherargei sponsored
Nairobi – Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi is now claiming that the bill presented in the Senate by Nandi senator Samson Cherargei to increase the term limit of the presidency is a conspiracy by the ousted deputy president Rigathi Gachagua to undermine the current administration.
Wamumbi claimed that the bill that Kenyans strongly opposed was drafted in Gachagua's office, probably under his orders.
Who is the sponsor of Senator Cherargei's complex bill?
According to him, Nandi senator Samson Cherargei was deliberately accused of sponsoring the bill to remove the suspicion that Gachagua was the one supporting it.
The member of parliament continued to criticize that the second leader who was removed from power wanted to use the unpopular law to pollute the administration of the President William Ruto.
“Truth. Senator Kiprotich Cherargei's bill to extend the term of the president and other elected officials from 5 to 7 years was prepared by officials in the office of the Deputy President. The chairman of the committee that prepared the bill was the director of communications in the DP's office.
It was agreed that the bill must be moved by the Senator Kalenjinand that is how Senator Cherargei was treated. This was one of the many schemes that made the government unpopular. It is their bill; they have to carry their own cross,” he said.
What is Senator Cherargei's proposal regarding the presidential term limit?
If the proposed amendment is passed, those in the presidency will enjoy their term of office for seven years, as opposed to the current five years for one term.
The same period would be enjoyed by governors, Members of County Councils, and Members of Parliament.

Citizens had until October 26 to submit their views before the committee held a public hearing.
How Rigathi Gachagua would break the relationship with Ruto
The latest comments by Mumbai came months after he claimed that the deputy president had laid out a detailed plan to undermine Ruto's influence in a large part of Mount Kenya before the 2027 vote.
The MP revealed that he rejected Gachagua's invitation to be part of the team fighting against the president with a promise to return in 2027.
According to him, during the anti-Ruto show, the ousted deputy president will be behind the scenes establishing friendships and collaborating with other partners for the purpose of the next vote.
