Migori – Sadness prevailed in Nyang'au village in Rongo sub-county after a man allegedly killed his father following a dispute.
The sad event that happened on Monday, October 28, around 8 pm, has left the village in a state of uncertainty.
Eyewitnesses say Geoffrey Ariwa, the 37-year-old suspect, invaded his father's compound and asked to have a private conversation with him before launching the deadly attack.
“The father was tending the animals in the compound before his son called him for a conversation,” said Maurice Otieno, an eyewitness.
Otieno said that shortly after the two started talking, a heated argument broke out, which turned into a fight.
Why did Geoffrey attack his father?
A relative of the deceased, who was also present, revealed that Geoffrey and his father had a long-standing dispute over a debt of KSh 200,000.
According to the relative, Geoffrey had borrowed the money several years ago, handing it over to his sister, and was pressuring his father to pay it back.
Rongo OCPD Shalim Fundi confirmed the incident and said that his father known as Agunga Ariwa was found with serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead when he was brought to Rongo County Hospital.
“We received a report of an attack on a 37-year-old father and son, the suspect fled the scene when we arrived, leaving Agunga Ariwa's father half dead,” Fundi said.
The police chief explained the injuries suffered by the victim, noting cuts on the neck, chin, head and shoulder.
A man kills his mother because of ugali
In a separate case, Magdalene Wangechi, aged 68, was hacked to death by her son, Patrick Irungu, aged 36, in Gaturo village, Murang'a county.
Relatives said that Wangechi had prepared bananas, but his son demanded that he be given a plate of ugali.
Murang'a South County Deputy Commissioner Gitona Murungi said the neighbors stabbed the suspect.
