President William Ruto has appointed Bishop Margret Wanjiru as the new chairman of the Nairobi Rivers commission replacing Pamela Olet who has been dismissed from the post.
The commission is responsible for coordinating the activities of various stakeholders involved in the restoration, protection, and conservation of river basins.
It will also monitor compliance with environmental laws and regulations in the basin and its protected areas, working with government departments, agencies, and ministries.
How did Wanjiru pray after his church was demolished?
Before his appointment, Bishop Wanjiru made headlines for his powerful prayers following the demolition of his church, Jesus Is Alive Ministryand allegations of assault by police officers.
He claimed that one day President Ruto would look for him due to the pain he was said to have caused him.
“Now let me tell you something, my President and Deputy President, starting today, this Margaret Wanjiru who was beaten, my clothes were lifted up by young people who are police; they touched my thighs, woman of God I want to tell you one day you will look for me.
If this can be done to me, who is next? Beaten by your security officers and now I am on crutches, I will count the steps I will walk and someone will be responsible for each step. There is a true God in Heaven and He sees everything,” he said.
He continued to warn that the president will be responsible for any harm that will happen to him or his family, saying, “our blood will be on the hands of the president.”
Why did Millicent Omanga reject Ruto's job?
At the same time, former senator-elect Millicent Omanga rejected President Ruto's nomination to serve on the commission's board.
He noted that it was an honor to be considered for such an important role in improving the environment and public health Nairobi.
However, after careful consideration, he explained that he would not take the position for personal reasons.
