This follows after the Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargeito present a bill in the Senate seeking to extend the term of the president from five years to seven years.

Kenyans have until Friday, October 24, to express their views on Cherargei's proposal.

In an undated video, Ruto said that his government Kenya First will lead the opposition against any efforts to introduce an amendment to extend the term of the president.

“We will oppose any attempt to change the constitution. I will be in the front to say no to any attempt to change the constitution, to change the term,” said Ruto.

He said he will also lead the fight against proposals aimed at benefiting individuals at the expense of others.

“This is unnecessary and a futile effort, and it will not happen in my time,” said Ruto.

Senator of Kiambu what did he say about Cherargei's proposal?

Kiambu Senator, Karungo Thang'wa, is among the political leaders in the country who opposed the proposal to extend the term of the president.

Thang'wa opposed Cherargei's proposal by advocating the reduction of the presidential term to four years.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, October 23, Thang'wa said that the four-year term will increase accountability, promote political participation, and create opportunities for new leadership in the country.

He emphasized that his proposal for a term will strengthen the democratic foundations in the country and allow citizens to hold their leaders accountable from time to time.
