Martin Kihara Gathua, aka Kihara wa Gathua, aka Mzee wa Kazi, was buried in an emotional ceremony in Kamiruri, Nairutia Kieni WestNyeri county.
What killed Kihara wa Gathua?
The former Inooro FM presenter died of cancer on October 13 at the Referral Hospital Kenyatta University (KU), where he was receiving cancer treatment.
Kihara died at the age of 47, about a year after losing her mother.
Kihara Gathua's funeral full of emotions
Kihara's funeral was attended by hundreds of mourners, including journalists.
One by one, those who had the opportunity to mention him praised him with love, describing him as a leader, diligent, passionate and a patriotic citizen.
He was happily married to two wives, Jane Wangui and Catherine Njambi. Kihara and Wangui were blessed with three children: Frank Reagan Gathua, Victoria Wangeci, and Gabriel Kaburu.
He had one child, Michael Wangeci, with Njambi.
In her speech, Kihara's first wife described him as a social person, a good and loving father, recalling the memories of the first time they met.
“He was kind, gentle and a gentleman. He took pride in his work. I remember when we first met at the T-Room bus stop two decades ago, we got on a three Pain and on our journey we talked about politics, and before we parted, Kihara said to me 'I have a feeling you will be my wife.' We kept talking and it didn't take long before we became lovers. He loved his family unconditionally and always made time for his children,” he said.
“I will take care of our children just like you would have. I will miss your golden voice, the happy times we shared, and everything about you. Rest in peace. See you in the next life,” he added.
Kihara's children described him as a beloved father who inspired them to be good people and fear God.
Kihara's second wife paid tribute to him, remembering the day he was diagnosed with cancer.
“It's been a journey of 23 years together since we first met in college. We've been through joy, laughter, tears, and, most importantly, love. It's hard to believe you're no longer with us. I miss your humor, your Saturdays at Roga Roga, the shows our prayers at 9 pm, and relationship they are special with each of your children. You will always be in our heart. Sleep well, my dear husband,” read the second wife's speech.
