- Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, his aunt Faith Wamboi said the hospital agreed to consider removing the bill if they could raise half the required amount
One family in the village of Kamai county Kiambu is seeking financial assistance to cover a medical bill of KSh 2.8 million.
The family has asked for help from philanthropists to help them collect the amount of money to bring home the body of their daughter, who died while receiving treatment, for burial.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Faith Wamboi Munene, aunt of the deceased, said that her niece Gladys died on October 12, 2024.
He said that the 23-year-old girl was diagnosed with diabetes when she was in the first form and was controlling the condition even after finishing school.
“He has been able to control diabetes since he was in the first form,” Wamboi said.
Why was the Kiambu girl transferred to the Hospital Kenyatta National?
Wamboi noted that Gladys fell ill three months ago and was admitted to a hospital in Kiambu, where she developed kidney problems, which led to her being transferred to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
“He was admitted three months ago and was later transferred to KNH, where he was in the intensive care unit (ICU) until he died,” aunt explained.
The most sad guardian said Gladys was an orphan, and her biological mother, who was the only parent, died a long time ago, so she was under his care.
After talking to the hospital management about the cancellation of the bill, Wamboi said the social worker assured them that he would try to cancel the bill if the family could get half of the required amount.
“The social worker told us to try to get KSh 1.8 million or half of the bill so they can consider canceling it,” he added.
The body of the 23-year-old girl is currently kept in the KNH mortuary.
