Uasin Gishu – United Democratic Alliance (UDA) general secretary Hassan Omar has confirmed that plans are underway to remove the sacked deputy president Rigathi Gachagua from his position within the party.
Speaking during a press conference in Eldoret on Monday, October 21, Omar made it clear that the party now officially recognizes Kithure Kindiki as the second to replace Gachagua.
The Member of Parliament of the East African Parliament (EALA) explained that, since Gachagua is no longer serving as Deputy President, he needs to give up his position as deputy leader of UDA.
According to Omar, the structure of the party is closely related to the constitution, which includes the position of the deputy president and that of the deputy leader of the ruling party.
“The direction of our constitution is that the person holding the position of deputy president must also be the deputy leader of the party, so if he is not the deputy president, he will have to step aside and leave it to someone else. deputy leader of the party.
“As the government of Kenya First, and recognizing what is known as a broad-based government, we accept that our deputy president is Kithure Kindiki,” Omar insisted.
Why did the UDA support Gachagua's expulsion from government
Omar explained the reasons for supporting the UDA for the removal of Gachagua, claiming that his action hindered the ability of President William Ruto to lead the country properly.
He accused Gachagua of perpetuating division by perpetuating tribalism and grouping Kenyans according to the status of “shareholders”, thus making it difficult for Ruto to fulfill his promises.
“Tribalism on tribalism, putting people in groups, and talking about stocks and traps has now left the president without opportunities and space to work,” Omar said.
The UDA Secretary General said that with Gachagua out of the picture, Ruto will now be able to lead a government that includes more people and fulfill the promises he made during the campaign.
“We want to give President William Ruto these three years to implement the promises he made,” he added.
How Gachagua survived the alleged assassination attempt
The latest developments follow Gachagua's claims that President William Ruto's government tried to kill him.
Speaking at The Karen hospital on Sunday, October 20, Gachagua claimed he survived two assassination attempts before being acquitted.
The first case is alleged to have occurred in the County of Poisonouswhere undercover security officers allegedly poisoned his food.
The second case happened in the county of Painwhere National Intelligence Service suspects allegedly tried to poison his food.
According to Gachagua, the move to fire him was Ruto's last card after attempts to kill him failed.
