Bungoma – Former Minister of Health Susan Nakhumicha has opened up about her life after being removed from her duties in the Council of Ministers.
The former minister explained the emotional challenges he has faced since leaving office following the anti-government protests that rocked the country.
During the funeral of Kukhu Rodah Lusaka, the mother of Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka, on Friday, October 18, Nakhumicha made a heartfelt plea to the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of KenyaJackson Ole Sapit.
The former minister asked the Bishop to continue to be with him in his prayers for the country and its citizens.
Nakhumicha, who was once at the forefront of Kenya's health sector, reflected on the dramatic transition from holding a prestigious position in government to living as an ordinary citizen.
He admitted that the change was not easy, adding that although life was kind to him, he continues to seek God's blessings.
“Bishop, please pray for me, you know it is not easy to be a minister and then suddenly you are just Nakhumicha. You know my name is unique when you say “Nakhumicha,” immediately people think of the Minister of Health,” he told the mourners.
How have you been at Nakhumicha since you were fired?
The former minister highlighted how a sudden change in status can be overwhelming for anyone, stressing the importance of prayer in such times.
Despite the challenges, Nakhumicha remained optimistic, noting that he had received many blessings and hoped for more.
“But I ask that you continue to pray for me. I see that God has blessed me with good things, and I also hope for more blessings,” he added during his speech at the burial ceremony.
When was Susan Nakhumicha fired?
In July, the President William Ruto he fired all the secretaries of the Cabinet, including Nakhumicha, who were in charge of the Ministry of Health.
Ruto said he took the step after listening to the issues raised by Kenyans, especially the youth.
The sacking came after a series of protests against the government over the introduction of the levy under the 2024 Finance Bill.
