Rigathi Gachagua: Security Strengthened as DP Arrives in Senate to Hear His Charges

Nairobi – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua he has arrived in the Senate before to hear the case to remove him from the presidency.

How is the security situation in the Senate?

Gachagua is expected to meet the Senate session after the Supreme Court Nairobi dismissing the petition he submitted to prevent the Senate from hearing his impeachment case.

Videos available online show the vice president's motorcade arriving at the parliament building, accompanied by his team of lawyers, bodyguards, and supporting lawmakers.

The Senate is expected to read the 11 charges against Gachagua as approved by the National Assembly.

A few minutes before Gachagua's arrival, security was beefed up as Parliament Road was closed before the start of the impeachment trial, scheduled to start at three in the morning.

What charges are facing Gachagua?

Charges on the motion to remove the vice president from power include violation of the constitution, violation of relevant laws, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.

The MPs also expressed more concern about Gachagua's controversial statements about the Mt Kenya area being shareholders in the government Kenya First and allegations of fueling divisive politics in the country.

He is also accused of violating the Official Secrets Act and undermining the collective responsibility of the Council of Ministers. Another charge is Gachagua's decision to blame the Director of National Intelligence Services (NIS) for the negative protest against the 2024 Finance Bill.
