Newspapers on Tuesday, October 8, local newspapers reported in detail about the case of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua being removed from power.
One of the daily newspapers listed possible candidates to succeed Gachagua if he is sacked.
1. Daily Nation
This newspaper reported on the willingness of the Deputy President to defend himself before the parliamentary session on Tuesday, October 8.
Gachagua is facing arguments to remove him from power based on eleven arguments.
In a press conference on Monday, October 7, the Deputy President criticized the charges calling them lies which will be revealed by his lawyers who will defend him.
“I have been invited to appear before the National Assembly at five in the evening, and I want to confirm to the members, the Speaker, and the citizens of Kenya that I will arrive at that time and give my defense for two hours. I am confident that your honor will allow me to respond calmly,” said Gachagua.
His case will be led by his large team of lawyers.
2. The Star
The Star it predicted the people who could succeed Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President in case he is ousted.
After removing him and declaring the position vacant, President William Ruto will have 14 days to appoint his deputy. The name will be sent to the National Assembly for approval, and the Assembly will have 60 days to vet the nominee.
A nominee shall be deemed to have served a full term if he serves for more than two and a half years before the next election.
If the nominee takes office less than two and a half years before the next election, he will not be considered to have served a full term.
One of the close associates of the President hinted through social media that the position will be left to Mount Kenya.
Member of Parliament for Kapseret, Oscar Sudiexplained that the goal is to remove Gachagua for his behavior but to retain the seat in Mount Kenya.
Among the bigwigs close to Ruto who are believed to be the best for the position of Deputy President are the Minister of Internal Affairs, Kithure Kindiki, Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, who is the former chairman of the Council of Governors.

The plot to remove Gachagua from power was preceded by the action of several MPs from Mount Kenya to endorse Minister Kindiki as their favorite leader of the region.
3. The Standard
The Standard reported on the change of leadership in the Council of Governors (CoG). Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi was elected as the new CoG chairman, replacing Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga, who held the position for two years.
Abdullahi promised to defend devolution, unity, cooperation and inclusion. He will be assisted by Governor Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri as his deputy, while Stephen Sang of Nandi continuing to hold the position of CoG chief.
Abdullahi defeated Kahiga, Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi), Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado) and Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi) to get the position of chairman.
The governors also assigned their colleagues the responsibilities of chairing 18 technical committees. They are; Njuki (Health), Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa (Finance), Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka (Agriculture and Livestock), Vihiga's Wilber Ottichillo (Environment, Forestry and Climate Change), Garissa Governor Nathif Jama (Drought Relief) and Arid Countries) while Busia Governor Paul Otuoma placed in the category of Blue Ocean Economy.
Others are Erick Mutai of Kericho (Education), Simon Kachapin of West Pokot (Gender, Youth and Sports), Johnson Sakaja (Human Resources and Labour), Wisley Rotich (Information, Technology and Communication), Anyang' Nyong'o of Kisumu ( Land, Housing and Urban Development), Ochilo Ayacko of Migori (Legal and Constitutional Affairs), Simba Arati of Kisii (Resource Mobilization), Benjamin Cheboi of Baringo (Security and Foreign Affairs), Patrick Ntutu of Narok (Tourism and Wildlife), Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos (Business and Cooperation), Mohamed Ali of Marsabit (Transport, Infrastructure and Energy) and Joshua Irungu of Laikipia for Water and Natural Resource Management.
