Uhuru Kenyatta Appears After His Silence Raises Questions, He Meets with the United Nations Delegate

Huang Xia, United Nations Special Envoy for the Great Lakes region, engaged Uhuru in an online environment on Monday, September 30.

Huang is expected to report to the United Nations Security Council on the development of the Great Lakes, including the implementation of the 2013 Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework (PSC-F) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

What did Uhuru discuss with the UN special envoy?

The delegate, perhaps to enhance his theme, involved Uhuru, who, in his capacity as the moderator of the Nairobi Peace Process led by EACgave insight into the progress of the peace process in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Uhuru was given the task of facilitating the Nairobi Process, which aims to bring stability to Eastern DRC in response to the tension between the Kinshasa government and the M23 rebels.

Huang also wanted to understand the thoughts of the former president about the possibility of cooperation between the East African Community (EAC) and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) to achieve peace in those regions.

The ICGLR endorsed the Luanda Process aimed at reducing tensions between Rwanda and the DRC.

While the DRC accuses Rwanda of supporting the M23 rebels, Rwanda accuses the DRC of supporting the remains of the perpetrators of the 1994 genocide.

Huang will report to the Security Council on the progress of peace in the Great Lakes region on October 8.

“Our exchange focused on the next steps of the Nairobi Process as well as the way forward to ensure close coordination between the Nairobi Process and Luanda,” said Huang.

This is Uhuru's first official engagement to be announced recently, as he now seems to prefer a low profile.

In recent days, some people questioned the whereabouts of the former president.

But even when he hides his profile, Uhuru is still involved in high profile activities and activities.

How Uhuru is involved in Raila Odinga's quest to become AUC chairman

In September, it emerged that the former president is involved in former prime minister Raila Odinga's efforts to become the chairman of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Uhuru is using his networks across Africa to help him Raila win the post.

Ambassador Elkana Odembo, who is the leader of Raila's campaign secretariat, revealed that Uhuru had already sent his efforts to increase the chance of the former prime minister to take the difficult seat.

Odembo said the former president has been in contact with former colleagues across the continent to support Raila.

Raila is facing three other candidates; The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar Richard Randriamandrato and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius Anil Gayan.

That candidate of Kenya he will need the support of consensus or at least two-thirds of the votes by the member states represented by their heads.
