Kericho Governor Erick Mutai Dismissed For Gross Misconduct

In an impeachment hearing that lasted more than four hours, ward representatives debated the actions of the county executive, whom they accused of mismanagement.

How many MCAs sacked the Kericho governor?

Thirty-one ward representatives concluded that Mutai was unfit to hold his position; 16 colleagues did not vote.

Grounds for impeachment include gross violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.

Furthermore, the county boss was accused of intimidating and abusing lower officials who seemed to disagree with him.

The mover, MCA of Sigowet Kiprotich Rogony, said the victims will be brought to testify before the county parliament during the debate.

Mutai was also charged with trespassing on private land and illegally setting it up as a dump without the owner's permission.

Lawyers for the impeachment petition ignored a court order the governor had obtained to halt the process.

Earlier, the governor pleaded with the MCAs to forgive him and stop their plot to impeach him, saying that his young family depends on him.

After the motion, the MCAs were recorded singing with joy.

Mutai's fate will be decided by the court that previously suspended his prosecution,

Normally, his case would be taken to the Senate where, in committee or in plenary session, it would review the charges against him before deciding on his impeachment.

He is the third member of the Council of Governors (CoG) to be impeached and impeached this year.

In August, the removal of Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza was approved by the Senate after 49 out of 69 MCAs voted to send him home.

How the senators voted to remove Kawira Mwangaza

Regarding the gross violation of the constitution, 26 senators voted against the governor, four of them trying to save him; 14 MPs did not vote.

In relation to misconduct, 26 senators voted to send Mwangaza home, two voted for him, while 14 voted against.

Regarding abuse of office, 27 senators found the governor guilty, while one senator voted against the charge and 14 abstained.

Mwangaza rushed to the Supreme Court to challenge the Senate's decision.

Judge Luck Mwamuye suspended the decision of the High Council until the case was heard and decided.

Elsewhere, the governor of The loot Amos Nyaribo narrowly escaped being removed from power on September 10.
