Zimbabwe – Sadness has filled the town of Bindura following the deaths of five young girls in a horrific accident.
The horrific accident happened near Twin Lodges on Mt Darwin Road in Bindura on Saturday, September 28.
Zimbabwe News reported that Washington Timburwa (51), a Zimbabwean soldier, was driving a silver Nissan Primera with one passenger when he lost control of the vehicle, and went off the road.
“When he reached the 90km mark on the road, he failed to control the car properly and swerved to the left side of the road, then ran to the right side and hit six pedestrians who were walking on the road to the south,” reads the report.
According to the police report, the car overturned several times before landing on its roof.
Three passers-by, young girls from Bindura, died on the spot, while two others died while receiving treatment.
“The car overturned several times on the road. Three passers-by died on the spot; two died while being taken to a hospital in Bindura. One of the passers-by is in critical condition and has been admitted to a hospital in Bindura. One passenger from the first car sustained a head injury and his condition has improved. The driver (Timburwa) had no visible injuries.” the report added.
It has been revealed that the five victims, all from the same family and aged between 13 and 14, were walking home when the car hit them.
The victims have been identified as Nokutenda Mabheka (14), Rachel Sinodia Saidi (13), Chipo Chikanda (13), Misiyose Benjamin (14), and Makanaka.
The parents of the children who lived on a farm in Bindura Rural District feel a great shock.
“My daughter died in the accident; I don't even know what to feel or what to do,” the mother of one of the dead girls told ZBC News.
