This newspaper reported on new developments in relation to the brutal killing of a 44-year-old woman in Embu County.
On September 24, Jane Mwende Kilonzi disappeared from her home in Mugari village before her dismembered body was found floating in the Mugari river.
Mbeere South police commander, Harrison Muthua, said the suspect surrendered to the police and confessed to killing Mwende.
“The suspect surrendered at the Kanyonyo Police Station and confessed to killing the woman. We have started an investigation to establish the truth. After completing the investigation, the suspect will be brought to court to face charges of murder,” said Muthua.
According to the neighbors, Jane may have been killed in her house and then her body was dragged to a nearby river and thrown there to hide the evidence of the murder.
Mwende's body was found dismembered, with his eyes gouged out, a situation that left relatives, friends and villagers shocked.
Residents explained that the body of the mother of seven children had many injuries on her head and other parts of her body.
The Standard
This magazine reported on a plan to remove Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from power, pushed by MPs of the Union of Kenya First.
Some of President William Ruto's allies want him not to get involved in the process of firing his deputy, amid fears that the President may intervene to save Gachagua.
Reports suggest that Ruto has not yet given a clear position on the matter, and may ask MPs to abandon the plan as he did a few months ago.
The president has scheduled a meeting of a group of lawmakers where the fate of Gachagua will be decided.
The Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Sylvanus Osoro, asked the president to respect the independence of the Assembly, saying that the process of removing Gachagua is the plan of the parliamentarians.
“We respect the President, but for this, it will take a miracle to convince more than 300 Members of Parliament who want a Deputy President of the Nation. If he requests otherwise, we will ask him to accept our proposal to have 40 deputy presidents from other tribes who feel abandoned. We advise the President NOT to involve himself in this and leave the MPs to do their job, Gachagua MUST LEAVE,” said Osoro.
