The veteran journalist released the sad news on Thursday, September 26 through Instagram.
Mashirima said he broke down while praying for his biological mother. In the photo, Mashirima's mother was wearing an elegant dress with an African theme and a matching fabric.
“It's broken. Give eternal pleasure to the mother, O Lord, and let eternal light shine upon her. May he rest in peace. Amen,” he wrote.
Just three days ago, Mashirima posted a photo of himself smiling next to his look-alike mother.
“My everything,” captioned the photo.
