Nandi – Tensions have continued to hit Nandi as residents intensify their calls for accountability and leadership reform.
Some residents, frustrated by what they describe as poor governance, camped outside the Nandi County Assembly on the night of Tuesday, September 24.
The protestors, determined to make their voices heard, spent the cold night, demanding that the elected Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) take immediate action to address their grievances.
They accused the members of the County Executive Committee (CECM) of failing to perform their duties, saying the leaders have not fulfilled their duties.
Calls for a special committee to investigate CECM's activities have gained momentum, but some MCAs have strongly opposed the idea.
The angry residents called for the resignation of the ineffective CECM officials, alleging that their inefficiency has crippled the county's vital operations.
“We are angry because of the poor leadership in Nandi County. First of all, we want to tell Mr. Governor and your MCAs who are united, that we are very corrupt, and we cannot buy the fear you are trying to sell to us. We will stand here until morning because we want justice to be done ,” One of the residents said.
Why are the residents of Nandi against Governor Sang
Governor Stephen Sang has found himself in the middle of a storm as they accuse him of managing corruption in the devolved unit.
The protesters also directed their anger at the MCAs, accusing them of turning a blind eye to corruption within the county government.
They cited cases of air workers and favoritism, claiming that Sang's family members and relatives are receiving salaries without doing any work for the county.
“This is because nothing is happening in Nandi County. We also want to talk about the MCAs who are supporting the Governor to promote corruption in Nandi County. We are talking about air workers, who have spread to his family and relatives who are earning money from Nandi County, we the locals of Nandi County, we are tired of corruption.” he added
