A family is in mourning after their two children died in a fire in Muurune village, Igembe North, county of Meru.
Where were the children of Meru when the fire started?
The children, who are said to be three years old, were inside their home when the tragedy occurred.
Weru TV reported that the local chairman confirmed the incident and warned parents against leaving their children locked inside the house.
Unconfirmed reports say that the bodies of the children were recovered from the scene of the fire and taken to the Maua Referral Hospital mortuary for safekeeping.
Videos circulating online showed the house destroyed by ashes, while people could be heard screaming due to the death of the children.
The cause of the fire was unknown at the time of publishing this article.

In a separate incident, tragedy struck in Ramula village, Gwasi West, Suba South constituency, after two children died in a house fire.
The victims, Savior Omondi, a three-year-old student of PP1 at Ramula Primary School, and his one-and-a-half-year-old brother, Reagan Otieno, were badly burned beyond recognition during the fire, which occurred at 9pm, Saturday, September 14.
The chairman of the area, Tobias Opiyo, in a special interview with TUKO.co.ke, confirmed that the children's parents were attending a night service in a nearby house when the fire broke out.
Opiyo also said the children's father, Paul Ogolla, revealed that the fire may have been caused by a night walker known to visit his house, although he had no dispute with anyone in the village.
The night walker was not identified, and the authorities treated the case as an attempted fire based on Ogolla's description.
The police, who were removed by Opiyo, quickly responded to the incident. The bodies were taken to St. Carmella's Karungu for an autopsy, and further investigation is underway.
