Siaya – Police in Rarieda Sub-County have launched an investigation into the brutal murder of Moses Oduor Mbeda, assistant chief of Memba sub-county.
Mbeda was killed by unknown people in the early hours of Saturday, September 21, at his home.
What the police chief of Siaya said about the murder
According to Siaya County Police Commander Serah Koki, the tragic incident happened at about one o'clock in the morning when Mbeda went out of his house to use the pit toilet inside his compound.
It was at this time that the assailants ambushed him, causing him serious injuries, especially cutting his neck badly.
Mbeda was rushed to the Lwak mission hospital in a serious condition but after being brought he died due to the serious injuries he was suffering.
“The deputy chief was immediately rushed to the nearby Lwak Mission Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries,” Koki said.
The authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the murder, while officials are working to identify those responsible for the heinous crime.
The body of the late assistant chief has been moved to the Lwak Mission Hospital mortuary for safekeeping while investigators await the results of the post-mortem examination to further assist in the ongoing investigation.
The community has been shocked by the loss of Mbeda, and the law enforcement agencies have asked anyone with information to come forward to help bring the perpetrators to justice.
How a 20-year-old was killed in Siaya
Still in Siaya county, a 20-year-old man was killed in mysterious circumstances in Ukwala, Ugenya.
Mwananchi Digital reported that the man's death created a sense of anxiety in the area, which led to the house of the suspected murderer being set on fire.
Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said a group of about 10 youths invaded Okech Okwako's house looking for his grandson.
During the incident, the angry youths set fire to Oketch's grandson's thatched house and burnt it to ashes.
Preliminary investigations show that Oketch's grandson was among the people who allegedly attacked the deceased.
The police found the body of the deceased still dead along the Awendo-Diraho road, about 200 from the compound with a large part on the left side of the stomach.
