Kitengela Brothers Recount Their 30 Days in the Hands of Kidnappers: “Toilet Once a Week”

Nairobi – Kitengela brothers who were kidnapped along with activist Bob Njagi were found safe after missing for 30 days.

Abdi Razak, the brother of Jamil and Aslam Longtone, spoke for the first time since their release, describing the terrible ordeal the three had gone through.

How were the Kitengela 3 treated as captives?

He claimed that his brothers and activist Bob Njagi were tortured and starved during their captivity.

“From the second day, they were badly tortured and beaten while being asked questions about the protest. They were fed once a day, and water was reduced to 300ml,” he said.

To add to their misery, the two brothers were reportedly denied the right to worship and were only allowed to use the toilet once a week.

“The toilets were only opened once a week,” he demanded.

Where were Jamil, Aslam dropped by the kidnappers?

Razak went on to say that when his brothers were released on Friday, September 20, they were given their phones and KSh 300 for the fare, blindfolded.

They were also warned not to talk about what happened to them.

“They were dropped near Bishop Gate in Gachie, they were given their phones and KSh 300 for the bus fare,” Razak added.

Njagi appeared in Thogoto on the same day that the brothers were seen.

Why Kitengela 3 were captured?

The three were kidnapped on August 19, forced into a Subaru car by men who claimed to be police officers and taken to an unknown location.

Their abduction was linked to their direct participation in the protests against the Finance Bill 2024 which was scrapped.

What happened when Kitengela 3 were still missing?

Meanwhile, their release coincided with the swearing-in ceremony of the new Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja.

Their capture sparked a wave of protests, while Amnesty International and the Lawyers Association of Kenya accusing the then Acting IG, Gilbert Masengeli, of having knowledge of their whereabouts.

As the situation worsened, Masengeli was required to appear several times in the High Court but he disobeyed the orders, causing it to be given six months in prison.
