Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua He has indicated that Mt Kenya voters living in Nairobi may not support Johnson Sakaja in the next election.
What did Gachagua say about Nairobi leadership?
Addressing the residents of Nairobi on Friday, September 20, Gachagua said that the voters of Mount Kenya they will organize themselves properly to prepare for the 2027 General Election.
“No other day, we will vote for someone without a proper plan. Here NairobiI will tell you how we will live,” Gachagua said.
He also said that any leader elected by the residents of Nairobi should be able to fulfill their wishes.
He added that leaders should address them with respect and without making any threats.
“…But anyone who has been voted in and still wants the support of these people to make sure their needs are met,” he said.
Expulsion of Farmers Market traders
Gachagua criticized Sakaja for approving the eviction of farmers' market traders.
County inspectors confronted traders on Tuesday morning, September 12, as they were carrying out their transfer to the new Kangundo Road Market.
The county aimed to decongest the city by moving small businesses to the suburbs to improve traffic in the city centre.
Riots broke out and led to the intervention of the police, who had to deploy tear gas and water cannons to quell the riots.
