2. The Standard
The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has warned about substandard cooking oil in the market.
KEBS managing director Esther Ngari revealed that eight of the 44 consignments ordered by Kenya National Trading Corporation Ltd (KNTC) were found to contain 5.88 million liters of substandard cooking oil.
The non-standard cooking oil entered the market on different dates between May 2023 and November 2023, and was in 293,800 20 liter jars.
They were not destroyed as they were investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI). The luggage was lost.
“Edible oil samples were taken from the consignment for testing against the requirements of KS EAS 769: 2019 Kenya standards for edible oils and fortified oils. Out of eight samples from the consignment, seven lacked vitamin A, while one load lacking vitamin A and insoluble impurities,” Ngari revealed.

The rift between President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua is widening.
A silent battle is going on ahead of the election of the chairman for the position of Council of Governors (CoG).
Outgoing chairman Anne Waiguru has completed her two terms, and the fight for her position has begun in full swing.
Two camps have emerged: One loyal to Ruto and his new political partner, Raila Odinga, and the other pledging allegiance to Gachagua.
Governor of Pain Mutahi Kahiga who is an ally of Gachagua is hoping to succeed Waiguru which has caused consternation in Ruto's camp as he is considered 'anti-government'.
Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi of ODM also presented his papers. Governor of Kiambu Kimani Wamatangi was interested in the seat but had not submitted his papers yet.
4. The Star
The publication reported that the Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua is planning to visit his Mt Kenya home ground to deal with the alleged insurgents.
This comes after more than 48 members of parliament announced the Minister of Internal Security Kithure Kindiki as their king in the area.
Gachagua will hold marathon meetings starting Githurai while trying to 'unify' the vote-rich region before the 2027 General Election.
Some members of MCAs and Njuri Njeke have joined the campaign against Gachagua, which has given Ruto number two.
5. Nation Today
President William Ruto plans to give Internal Security Minister Kithure Kindiki more powers and make him a new 'Fred Matiang', who enjoyed a similar position in the government of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This is happening amid a cold war with DP Rigathi Gachagua, who has now been sidelined.
Gachagua has been accused of rocking the boats from within by opposing government policies.
DP allies, led by Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru, claimed Ruto wanted to disappoint his deputy by promoting Kindiki.
