Rwanda – At least two students have died after an accident involving a St Matthew School bus in Nyamasheke District.
What caused the St Matthew School bus accident?
According to the Spokesperson of the Road Safety Police, Emmanuel Kayigi, the accident happened at around 9 pm, Thursday, September 19.
Kayigi said a Toyota minibus, with registration number RAH 042T, which was carrying students, met with an accident in Ruharambuga Sector, near Kamabuye village.
Preliminary investigations show that the bus driver tried to avoid hitting a bicycle traveling in the same direction when he lost control and entered the tunnel.
“The driver tried to avoid the bicycle that was traveling in that direction when the accident happened. The cyclist is among the injured,” said Kayigi as reported by Times News.
According to the police, 32 students were injured and rushed to Kamonyi Health Center and Bushenge Hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
How 6 students died in an accident Kitui
In other sad news, six students died following the accident terrifying on the Kitui-Kibwezi Road.
Ititha County Deputy Commissioner, Vincent Loctary Lomachary, confirmed the accident that happened on the morning of Friday, September 13, saying it happened at Wiitu Shopping Centre.
Lomachary said the victims are three students from Kyaoni Primary School and three from Kyaoni Secondary School. Authorities said five of the victims were girls.
According to the deputy county commissioner, the students were hit by a Probox car when they were crossing the road at 12:20 am.
Lomachary said preliminary findings from the police indicated that the Probox was speeding at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Probox fled the scene of the accident before later surrendering at the Mutomo Police Station.
