The two separated when Rose was five years old, after her father left her with her aunt there Vihiga before being arrested and imprisoned.

His aunt, unable to bring him back Kilifi to them, he raised Rose, who eventually set out to find her mother as an adult, with only a few memories of her childhood.

For many years, Rose tried to find her mother's whereabouts, but her efforts were unsuccessful.
