What did Ruto say about the police and the Court?

During the launch of reforms to the National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Prisons, and the National Youth Service (NYS) in Lower Kabete, the president urged the NPS, under Masengeli, and the Judiciary, under the Chief Justice Martha Koometo work together.

“I am aware that the National Police Service is independent and so is the Judiciary but ultimately we have only one boss, the people of Kenya,Ruto confirmed.

He asked the two departments to cooperate for the benefit of the nation and work together to serve Kenyans.

He stressed the need to avoid conflicts between the two government institutions to ensure the provision of proper services to Kenyans.

The President further emphasized the importance of respecting the rule of law in order to strengthen democracy in the country.

The statement seemed aimed at Masengeli who had previously ignored the court summons six times.

“We must defend our democracy and the rule of law while also ensuring that we work for the benefit of Kenyans,” Ruto said.

Masengeli appealed to the Court through a letter

Ruto's statement came a few hours after Masengeli criticized the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) regarding the security of judicial officers.

In a strong statement on Tuesday, September 17, Masengeli accused the Judiciary of interfering in its constitutional role.

He stressed that the NPS remains independent and that it will not be silenced by threats or coercion to influence its functioning.

Masengeli stressed that no external authority can direct or interfere with the work, recruitment, promotion, suspension or dismissal of the police.

Masengeli has been fired following his move to remove Judge Lawrence Mugambi's bodyguard and driver.
