Teddy Kalanda Harrison, founding member of the famous band Them Mushroom, has died at the age of 72.
Kalanda died on Tuesday, September 17, at his home in Kaloleni, County Kilifiafter suffering from cancer for a long time.
Who confirmed the news of Teddy Kalanda's death?
His younger brother, John Katana, who currently leads the band, confirmed the sad news.
A source who spoke to TUKO.co.ke revealed that Kalanda was battling cancer, and by the time of his death, he had lost his eyesight.
“Kalanda was a brave man. He fought valiantly against cancer and finally succumbed. He had also lost his eyesight before his death,” a source told TUKO.co.ke.
He will be remembered a lot for his brilliant song Jambo Bwana, which became a big hit in the country and abroad.
How did Fred Machokaa cry for Teddy Kalanda?
Veteran radio presenter Fred Obachi Machokaa mourned the death of Kalanda, describing him as his longtime friend and condoling with his family.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of music legend and longtime friend, Teddy Kalanda Harrison. He of Them Mushrooms and the famous song Jambo Bwana ruled the airwaves for decades!!!! To my brothers Billy Saro, John Katana and the entire family of Harrison, please accept my sincere condolences for this great tragedy and may Teddy rest in peace and may God comfort you all in this very difficult time,” he wrote.
Them Mushroom Band on their 50th anniversary
As previously reported, the band Them Mushroom celebrated 50 years of musical excellence together in December 2022 at Carnivore.
Ezekiel Mutua poured his heart out, praising the evergreen band.
Mutua took to his Twitter, paying tribute to the famous band that has been singing hits that have crossed many generations.
