Two children, believed to be twins, were allegedly abandoned at a police officer's house in Chingola, Copperbelt Region, on Tuesday evening.
The twins were discovered by the officer, Helen Masakamika, at the back of her house sound asleep.
Mwebantu reported that the discovery was made around eight o'clock in the afternoon after Officer Masakamika returned home from the market.
The policeman had left his home, in the Nchanga Police Camp, at one in the evening.
“When he returned, he found two children lying near his front door in the back of the house,” The Copperbelt Police Chief, Peacewell Mweemba, said.
Since the children looked healthy, he immediately called his neighbors to help him identify them.
Despite efforts, no one in the area could recognize or know who the angels belonged to.
After consulting with his superior, Officer Masakamika took the children to the police station, where the case was officially reported.
Later, the children were transferred to the North Nchanga Central Hospital and admitted for further observation.
The police have launched an investigation to find out who was responsible for abandoning the children.
Authorities have called on anyone with information about the twins or their mother to come forward.
