During a heated Senate session on Wednesday, September 18, Sifuna revealed that he had an important question that had been pending for over a year and he would ask the new Minister of Finance.
“We woke up early in the morning to attend this session. The question I should have asked CS Mbadi is a question that is more than a year old. It has taken him less than two weeks to become Kenya's First Cabinet. A secretary who has no respect for this house. We cannot allow this because we want contact these Ministers,” Sifuna said.
The Nairobi senator questioned Mbadi's commitment and accused him of abandoning his parliamentary roots.
“I want to tell him John Mbadi that this matter is unacceptable and he should respect this Parliament, even worse he was a member of parliament, if he was just uprooted in the wilderness like other people, I think maybe we would forgive him. But he was a member of parliament; has he even completed 2 weeks this is not acceptable,” Sifuna complained.
How has Mbadi's behavior changed?
Sifuna pointed out that Mbadi had confirmed his attendance the previous day, only for the Senate to be informed of his absence at the last minute.
“Until yesterday there was already a communication that he has confirmed and it will come in, at least he should have written yesterday and said that he cannot, Mr. John Mbadi must be called to issue an order. This is not the John Mbadi I knew, I don't know what they have done to him,” the member of parliament explained.
He also took a step at how congressional meetings seemed to take precedence over Senate matters.
“Because, these palace meetings appear to people as a surprise party,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna urged Mbadi to take his responsibilities seriously, reminding him of the honor of the former president Mwai Kibaki to the National Assembly.
